New Year’s Resolutions make MEE sick!

New Year’s resolutions make my stomach turn upside down. Did you know only 8% of people who make a resolution are successful? Moreover, just under 40% never even make a resolution at all. So, if you weren’t working out seriously in November and December of 2016, why would you place that much pressure on yourself in 2017?
I get it, health clubs specials are a dime a dozen during this time of the year. They’re simply preying on the fact that most of us ate too much these last five to six weeks. Their parking lots will be packed with new members screaming I want to lose this or tone that. Then only to settle into the reality that in another six short weeks, the parking lots will return to normal. With the individuals who were working out all year long.
Who said that the only time for us to take ourselves serious enough to make a resolution is on the first day of the new year? MEE, myself and I, use my birthday as a real marker for reflection, rejuvenation and refueling. This makes assessing more personal and holds truth to the meaning of self-development. If we’re truly adamant about making life style changes; then we must better understand our lives. I can often be heard telling my daughter and students that the two most important days of their lives, is the day they were born and the day they find out why. You will read more about this in the book. Lol
Commit to a life that’s suited for you and only you. We have to stop allowing ourselves to be bullied into doing things that society has drilled into our psyche. If you’re not the size you desire, then go deep into your darkest emotions and ask yourself why? If you’re not living the career goals that you dream about daily, uncover what’s holding you back. If you knew you couldn’t fail what would you try? Revisit the days of your youth, what activity made time stand still? What sort of things did you play with? As we’ve gotten older, we’ve lost our sense of play and creativity.
Family, I want us all to be better people, better parents, better friends and better self-advocates. We must rid ourselves of exaggerated agencies and begin walking in our own light. As there is nothing in life that’s perfect. Allow yourself to be vulnerable at the risk of being great. There are thousands, probably millions of people who are waiting on you. I know, as I’ve had to apologize for waiting too long to rise above the storm. Don’t be like MEE, be better than me and walk into 2017 with a clear vision for your life. Then create a mantra that supports this vision and recite it daily at least twice a day.
It’s incumbent for each and every one of us to leave this world better than we found it. This can only be accomplished by fulfilling our individual missions in life. Stop worrying about joining a gym or making any major alterations to your life until you have a clear understanding of what you’re going to do and most importantly…why!
Here’s to the best year of your life.
